A gabardine is a densely woven fabric with a distinct steep twill line. The face has been made smooth and clear by shearing and pressing. The fabric is used for suits, costumes and coats. All our gabardines are GOTS certified. This means that not only the cotton was grown organic, but that production in the whole chain - spinning, weaving, dyeing etc.- leading up to the fabric was done following the GOTS standard.
Gabardine is a sturdy and tightly woven fabric that can be used to make e.g. suits, jackets, skirts, trousers, uniforms. Characteristically, gabardines are woven in a twill weave with a clear diagonal line on the face side and a smooth back.
The fabric was developed in the 19th century and was initially made from wool. The gabardines from ECOLOGICAL TEXTILES are almost all made of organic cotton and GOTS-certified. Already in the 19th century the fabric was presented as breathable, fairly water-repellent and comfortable. Another characteristic of the gabardine is its softly shining appearance.
Most gabardines have an average weight, not very heavy and certainly not too light. This means that the clothing made from gabardines is usually suitable for wearing all year round.
We made three different sample sets. One set contains all the colours of the gabardine ET_TKW011_0 (5,5 oz., 240 gr/m2). Another set contains samples of the slightly heavier ET_TKW011_1, a fabric with a weight of 8 oz (270 gr/m2). There is also a set with samples of the four different qualities in our collection.
