Noil silk, also known as raw silk, is a durable fabric with a distinct texture that is usually made from the short fibres (noils) left over during the spinning process, or sometimes taken directly from the silkworm cocoons. Despite its somewhat rustic and rough appearance, noil silk feels exceptionally soft and has a beautiful drape. The fabric has less sheen than most silk (compare, for example, item ET_S09), so that it sometimes looks more like cotton than silk. Nevertheless, the fabric is based on protein fibres, with related properties such as high self-cleaning capacity and the ability to absorb dyes well. The fabric is also easy to work with.
This fabric is supplied as a 47 cm tube that can be cut open if necessary (total width 94 cm). It is produced in China.
Applications: This noil silk fabric can be used for making e.g. T-shirts, dresses, underwear
