Silk fabrics of Ecological Textiles

On this page, we present our silk fabrics. The collection is limited in size but unique because it also includes fabrics made from organic and GOTS-certified silk. Ecological Textiles offers both woven and knitted silk fabrics. All these fabrics are made from 100% natural silk and contain no synthetic fibres.

Silk is a protein fibre that is both strong and elastic, with high moisture absorption and self-cleaning properties. In this it resembles wool, also a protein fibre.

Silk cultivation

Silk is ultimately an agricultural product in which the cultivation of the silkworm is central, as well as the plant material that the caterpillar feeds on, the leaves of the mulberry tree. The mulberry is grown organically, without the use of synthetic fertilisers, with buffer zones containing other crops (e.g. fruit trees) and, for example, without the use of GMOs. In addition, the local climate and soil types are taken into account.

Right next to the mulberry plantation is a breeding house where the silkworms are cultivated. Here too, the local climate is taken into account to prevent disease and guarantee a good yield.

Silk fabrics

GOTS-certified silk is always a product of organic farming. In addition, the processing of the silk also meets the high standards for clean and environmentally friendly production. This can relate to, for example, the dyes used, water management and energy consumption. The certification also sets important social requirements. You can read more about GOTS here →
