What is Loden?
'Loden' is now a collective name for dense and heavy woven wool fabrics, often (but not always) in a blended melange look. With its weight of 220 gr/m2, this piece dyed fabric ET_GW030 can be counted amongst the light loden fabrics.
Loden fabrics are always made with carded yarns, which are a bit more voluminous and fluffier than worsted yarns. Loden fabrics are always fulled and are distinguished from each other by the different techniques with which the yarns are woven and by the intensity with which the fabric is fulled.
Fulling makes the fabrics stronger, warmer, water-repellent, dirt-repellent and windproof.
Wool naturally ensures a good balance between body and ambient temperature. In addition, wool is breathable. It absorbs water vapor and perspiration and releases it into the environment.
