Single jerseys are known for their stretch and softness. Due to their construction even the fabrics without elastane are stretchy. They are often used to make T-shirts but these versatile fabrics are also perfect for making nightwear, bedding etc.
SINGLE JERSEY FROM ECOLOGICAL TEXTILES
Single jersey, also called single knit or plain knit, is a soft fabric, mostly made from cotton. Because of its structure the fabric is stretchy even without the use of elastane. Single jerseys are knitted with one row of needles. The view side of the fabric is smooth, the backside has almost invisible loops.
The single jerseys in the collection of ECOLOGICAL TEXTILES are made from 100% organic cotton, in others some elastane is added (max 4%). They are produced in Turkey, from Aegean organic cotton. In weight the fabrics range between 80 and 185 gr/m2.
All organic cotton single jerseys in the ECOLOGICAL TEXTILES collection are GOTS certified.
Because the single jerseys of ECOLOGICAL TEXTILES are all made from organic cotton they are highly breathable and perfect for making clothing for daily use, e.g. t-shirts, tank tops, nightwear. Because they are so stretchy single jerseys are also perfect for clothing that requires freedom of movement.
Single jerseys from ECOLOGICAL TEXTILES have a nice drape and are easy to care for. Because cotton jersey has a tendency to shrink our advice is to pre-wash the fabrics before processing them. Note that single jerseys have a tendency to curl.
Historically all jersey fabrics appear to come from Jersey, a small island in the Channel. In the late Middle Ages they were already used for making underwear.
