Organic Cotton Canvas
Organic cotton is always an excellent choice for a wide variety of clothing items as well as for interior design applications. It is a naturally flexible fiber that feels soft to the touch, offers excellent breathability, is generally well-tolerated and can absorb up to 20 percent of its own weight in water without feeling damp. In addition, cotton is, of course, a natural fiber, it's not 'fossile'. This means that it is renewable, circular, and free of microplastics. Also relevant: many of the problems that plagued the cotton sector several decades ago - and gave the fiber a bad reputation - have now been fully or partially overcome.
Why organic cotton?
A key difference between organic and “conventional” cotton is that organic cotton is grown without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides and without genetic modification. Organic farming contributes to biodiversity (organic farms host 34% more biodiversity than conventional ones) and makes it possible to mitigate or reverse the negative impacts of industrial agriculture, such as water pollution, desertification, and erosion.
Why GOTS?
Organic cotton is the foundation of the GOTS certification, which this fabric holds. However, textiles are more than an agricultural product. That is why GOTS certification examines the entire production process that the “raw” cotton undergoes to become a fabric, from cleaning the cotton (ginning) to spinning the yarn and then weaving, knitting, and finishing (such as dyeing). In addition, the GOTS certification also covers social aspects such as working conditions. Ecological Textiles is a GOTS-certified company.
