Light loden in a navy colour and made from merino wool. The fabric feels soft and is easy to handle. It was woven in a plain weave and then fulled, which makes it more compact and also increases the natural dirt and water repellent properties of wool. Due to the technique with which they are made, loden fabrics are always relatively heavy. With a weight of 220 gr/m2 this fabric can be counted among the light lodens. This luxurious fabric of pure wool is perfect for light jackets, dresses, accessories and interior products.

The origin of the raw wool is either South-America (Argentina or Uruguay) or Australia. The wool was spun, woven and finished in Europe.

What is Loden?

'Loden' is now a collective name for dense and heavy woven wool fabrics, often (but not always) in a blended melange look. With its weight of 220 gr/m2, this piece dyed fabric ET_GW030 can be counted amongst the light loden fabrics.

Loden fabrics are always made with carded yarns, which are a bit more voluminous and fluffier than worsted yarns. Equally important is that loden fabrics are always fulled. They are distinguished from each other by the different weaving techniques that are used and the intensity with which the fabrics are fulled. Fulling makes the fabrics stronger and warmer, increases the natural water- and dirt-repellent properties of wool and makes the fabrics more windproof.

Wool naturally ensures a good balance between body and ambient temperature. In addition, wool is breathable. It absorbs water vapor and perspiration and releases it into the environment.

These loden fabrics are suitable for light jackets, dresses, accessories and interior products. They are also used for making historical clothing for reenactment or the film industry.
