Chambray fabrics from Ecological Textiles

Chambray fabrics from Ecological Textiles are made from organic cotton, hemp, tencel and sometimes from organic wool with linen. The chambray resembles a denim in many ways: in both fabric warp and weft are different in color. Of course there are also differences.

  • Unlike denim, a chambray is woven in a plain weave, not a twill.
  • Both sides of the chambray look alike
  • The chambray is usually softer, smoother, lighter, more refined
  • Because of this, it can easily be used in more formal clothing such as shirts and suits

Historical fact: the chambray is named after the French town Cambrai, where the fabric seems to have its roots. Originally it was made from linen.
